No matter how long it took them to gain the weight, or how long they’ve been overweight once the decision to get fit is made people want it fast.

And because of this drive to get as fit or skinny as fast as possible many people looking to lose weight are also looking for shortcuts.

Bring on the Shakes and Diet Bars! Or not?

According to this report diet bars are not the best solution for those who are trying to lose weight.

They don’t provide the same benefits to you as a well planned balanced meal. Yes they are quick, but quick isn’t always the answer.

In a world where we want everything as fast as possible perhaps we should treat weight loss a little differently.

When you make your decision to lose weight think in terms of the long term. Not that it will be slow, just that making the right decisions about diet and exercise can help you a lot more than a quick shortcut.

Yet another successful woman who went from obese to losing 55 pounds gives great practical tips on how to lose weight.

Latasha Williams used her study of nutrition to help make small healthy choices day by day. The great part is that she advises: “You don’t have to change everything that you do at one time.”

It’s the small steady steps you take that get you to your goal.

And speaking of goals, it’s essential that you set both long and short-term goals. An ideal short-term goal that is both achievable and practical is to lose 5 pounds. After you accomplish that you’ll have momentum pushing you towards your long-term goal.

Latasha also tells us to track your progress and be consistent and persistent. It truly is a lifestyle change and we can all make it one small step at a time.

A new trend in Sydney is forcing some personal trainers out of business. There has been an increasing trend of people wanting to workout in the great out doors.  And who can blame them? With increasing gym membership costs it’s a great idea to avoid the crowd and take in some fresh air at the same time.

While the fans of outdoor exercise has been growing so has the amount of personal trainers offering their services.
It seems this cought the eye of some councils.  Some of them have began charging a fee for usage of public parks and other places.

However the fee structure is proving to be a large problem for some personal trainers.

Instead of charging one anual license for the use of all parks they have decided that each local government can choose what to charge.

And that’s the problem.

Some personal trainers cover multiple areas which means multiple licenses.

Local sport clubs have already had to pay a set fee to rent and use park space. With the growing demand of outdoor exercise it was only a matter of time before policy had to be put in place.

You can read the full story here, but I’m very interested in what you think about this?Is it fair to the personal trainers?

More importantly do you workout outside? Would you if you could?

There’s more than a few people certainly think so.

It’s their belief that ancient man was in much better shape than we are today. They take this belief one step further with what they eat and how the exercise.

The main rule to this diet is that you can only eat things that were available before the invention of agriculture. That means no bread but you can eat vegetables and fruit. It’s not just a full on meat diet.

One leader of the paleo movement promotes exercise retreats that will have you racing around on all fours, leaping across rocks, and even playing catch with stones.

Why this diet and lifestyle may not be for everyone it is practiced by many people around the world.

What do you think? Do you plan on following the path of our distant ancestors?

You can read the original article or another one that lists books on the so called caveman diet.

Many of you are probably familiar or at least aware of holistic treatments.  They are becoming more popular in our society. The basic idea is that you need to treat the issue as a whole.  Not just the body or physical side of the problem but also the emotional and mental side.

One expert has taken this same holistic view and applied it to weight loss. According to Henri Roca a medical director of Greenwich Hospital’s Centre for Integrative Medicine it’s more than just what we eat that decides how much weight we lose.

And it’s more than just the exercise we do as well.

Roca states: “Stress alone can have more of an impact than most people realize. Chronic stress can lead to increased cortisol levels, which stimulate glucose production in the body. Excess glucose is converted to and stored as fat, particularly around a person’s mid-section. A chemical chain reaction can occur inside the body and sabotage the best weight loss efforts”.

So next time you are feeling anxious, upset, or stressed out, just think what it’s doing to your body.  Your mood may be preventing you from shedding those extra.

Take some time to learn basic relaxation techniques like deep breathing or meditation.  And if you can, treat yourself to a spa day every once in awhile.

Whatever you do, keep those stress levels in check. You can read the rest of the article here.
